WE CARE

Women Empowerment through Collaboration, Empowerment, and Resources for Education

Deeya Sharma – Founder/President

A message from our President:

“I was born in Rajasthan, India—a place of beauty, but also a place where child marriage and systemic gender inequities remain painfully common. Growing up, I witnessed how girls and women are often deprived of education and women’s how women’s health was often overlooked or dismissed. These realities shaped my commitment to gender equity and inspired me, as a teenager, to found WE CARE in 2016.

Since then, WE CARE has grown into an international nonprofit with hundreds of members across the nation and some even international. We are all united by a shared vision: that every girl deserves access to education, healthcare, and the freedom to shape her own future. At its core, WE CARE is powered by youth. Every member of our organization is using their own education as a tool for change—proving that the energy, creativity, and conviction of young people can drive global impact.

My own path reflects this same belief in education as transformation. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Washington, where I learned about feminist theory and its application to leadership, advocacy, and health. Today, I am  a medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine and I continue to pursue a career dedicated to improving women’s health outcomes and addressing the gender disparities that persist in medicine.

Through WE CARE, I have had the privilege of leading and supporting initiatives across the globe:
· Rajasthan, India: Led a 100% HPV vaccination initiative for child brides and underserved girls.
· United States: Spearheaded a campus-wide free pregnancy test program at the University of Washington.
· Afghanistan: Helped implement a digital literacy program for women.
· Ghana: Developing a reproductive healthcare curriculum for youth to address teenage pregnancy.
· Italy: Established a partnership with the International Women in Intensive-care Network (iWIN) to mentor and sponsor future female physicians.
· National outreach: Created and oversee a newsletter, podcast, and a growing national database of women’s resources across WE CARE chapter locations.

These efforts reflect the heart of WE CARE: bold, youth-led action meeting urgent global needs. But as much progress as we have made, there is still so much work to be done. Child marriage persists, depriving girls of education and opportunity. Women’s health continues to be at risk—with lack of women in medical education and research. Across the world, gender inequities remain a barrier to dignity, freedom, and choice.

WE CARE was founded on the belief that when young people come together, we can make gender equity a reality. Our members are proof that education is not only a tool of empowerment but also a weapon against injustice.

Thank you for standing with us in this mission.”

With gratitude,
